Work Location: NASA Johnson Space Center - Ellington (Houston, TX) Minimum Citizenship: U.S. Citizen (position requires access to ITAR and/or EAR protected data) Clearance: US Government - Secret JOB DESCRIPTION - Sr. Mechanical Engineer - NASA Aircraft As part of an accomplished team, the Sr. Mechanical Engineer will support the design, development, and test of NASA JSC aircraft systems and subsystems over a broad range of aircraft from NASA Astronaut Training Jets to High Altitude Research Aircraft. This position will serve as a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to develop and implement flight vehicle integration, aircraft modifications, sustaining engineering and payload integration projects. This position will utilize 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D parametric CAD (PTC Creo), rapid prototyping and other tools in the development of designs and validation of those designs. This position will support the production of technical drawings, procedures and other documents to thoroughly define the design. This position will involve all phases of the design, including concept development, detail design, manufacturing, installation on the aircraft and follow up with the customer. Candidate will closely monitor execution progress, and perform technical, operational, and customer coordination to ensure horizontal and vertical integration across the aircraft platform programs. REQUIREMENTS - Sr. Mechanical Engineer - NASA Aircraft Education: Bachelor’s of Science degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering Year(s) of Experience : 10+ years of experience designing and integrating aircraft mechanical system elements. 5+ years of experience with 3D CAD modeling software (PTC Creo preferred) Qualifications, Skills and Traits: Experience working on military aircraft / spacecraft systems Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3D CAD modeling tools (Creo is strongly preferred). Experience in subsystem, payload, or system integration Experience in developing, managing, and decomposing requirements System architecture, CONOPs, or model based system engineering experience Project/Program management, or Systems Engineering experience General understanding of logistics, and sustainment concepts and operations Prior experience with sustainment operations or engineering release processes. Experience coordinating across multiple functions, and team members Strong attention to detail to support design checks and peer drawing reviews Other Requirements: Solid written and verbal communication skills Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Project and Excel Occasional travel to client sites will be required. Demonstrated leadership, training, and mentoring of less experienced engineers in specific technical areas and/or project engineering principles. Ability to establish and maintain effective, positive work relationships; have creativity, flexibility and resourcefulness; have discriminating judgment and tact Possess an Active DoD Secret Clearance and ability to obtain a clearance up to the Top Secret level.
