Job Summary

This position exists to perform project management duties for facilities in the Closed Landfill Program (CLP) and Metropolitan Landfill Contingency Action Trust (MLCAT) sites. Primary responsibilities include project, fiscal, and contractor management, and communication with stakeholders including the public of assigned facilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

A degree in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Geology, Hydrogeology, Water Resources, Soil Science, or other closely-related environmental field and two years of advanced professional-level experience remediating contaminated properties. (Advanced professional-level experience is equivalent to Senior Environmental Specialist, Environmental Specialist 3 level work.) Experience must include support for public policy, or implementing environmental rules or statutes.

Candidates should be skilled in communicating, negotiating, and collaborating with stakeholders who have varying ways of contributing to project outcomes. Communication skills should be sufficient to present information to non-technical audiences concerning environmental risks.

Candidates must have effective planning and project management skills and the ability to make decisions based on data.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to create site work plans, develop annual project budgets, and oversee contractors as they implement work plans.

Demonstrated ability to resolve technical matters relating to potentially contentious, controversial, and complex environmental issues.

Experience with public communications efforts on environmental projects.

Demonstrated ability to foster partnerships with local government on land management activities.

Ability to make sound decisions based on data.

Advanced technical writing skills.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

Additional Requirements

Position duties may require travel but driving is not a minimum qualification or essential function of this position. Employees who may drive for state business will need their driver's license checked prior to operating a state vehicle.
